The sport of hunting with coonhounds has been part of American history for centuries, going back to the early 1700s, and continues to this day in all parts of the country. Steeped in rich history and tradition, coon hunting is a pastime fond to many. The seven UKC Coonhound breeds have been specially bred for the traits required to excel in this sport. Nite Hunts, Bench Shows, Water Races, and Field Trials are all different methods to test a coonhound’s natural ability and/or structure. Hounds are scored on accuracy and speed while trailing wild game.
