UKC Reacts to the Canadian Postal Strike
December 6, 2024
As you may know, the ongoing Canadian postal strike has caused a shutdown of Canada's national mail carrier, meaning anything sent via the United States Postal Service (USPS) to Canada will not reach our Canadian customers. UKC mail originates from Kalamazoo, Michigan. USPS is currently not even accepting items that are heading to Canada from USPS hubs.
USPS mail is not currently accepted in Canada due to Canadian postal strike.
However, United Parcel Service (UPS) is still operational for Canadian shipments.
UKC will use UPS for select Canadian mail until further notice.
Here is how UKC will handle Canadian mail until further notice:
- For Canadian customers who have purchased items with paid shipping (primarily Registration rapid items such as pedigrees requested upon the registration of a dog, and merchandise from our store) sent by USPS, we'll ship via UPS with a comparable shipping method at no additional cost beyond what you had already paid for your chosen shipping style. Note: some of the Rapid services UKC offers are already through UPS, so you might not not see a change anyway.
- If you are a Canadian customer and you have not paid for upgraded shipping on Registration items beyond standard processing, the UKC Registration team is reaching out to offer you the choice of either holding your paperwork here at UKC until further notice, or providing you with a trackable option that we will send to you via UPS. The rate for this alternative method is $19.
- For items like title certificates, HRC membership cards, and magazine resends (that do not require Canadian cutstomers to pay for shipping), UKC will hold those pieces at the UKC office until the strike is resolved.
Guided by the belief that dogs make a difference by being the best partner a human can have in the field, on the job, or in a competition event, UKC is a community for people and dogs to pursue excellence together. Founded in 1898, UKC has been dedicated to enhancing the lives of Dogs That Do More, and their owners, by providing essential resources to help owners and breeders make informed decisions. The dog-human bond is celebrated through family-friendly programs highlighting the instincts and heritage of purebred and mixed-breed dogs alike at over 18,000 licensed events annually.
