Spring of 2019 will feature an exciting and monumental step for the UKC Elite Shed Dog Series. United Kennel Club will host the first of what will become an annual, premier event in the sport of shed dogs! Make plans to join us for the UKC Elite Shed Dog Series National Championship, April 26-28, 2019!
The goal of this event is to showcase and celebrate the finest talent from around the country in the sport of shed dogs. Awards and recognition will be bestowed upon deserving individuals and a quality experience promised to all who qualify and throw their hat in the ring for contention.
The setting will be rural, Adams County, Ohio, nearest to the town of West Union. It is hoped this location, being central to the sport, will afford an opportunity for everyone to attend. The event site will be Real McCoy Outdoors, offering over 8,000 acres of trophy whitetail managed property. Featuring their beautiful lodge, kennels and cabins, it will be a setting that complements a national shed dog event unlike any other. The date will be the last weekend in April in hopes of pleasant, spring weather - not too hot to run dogs and not too green for them to perform well.

The Ohio Shed Hunting Dog Association (Matt and Courtney Myers, Rob and Erin Lewis) along with Real McCoy Outdoors (Chad and Angie McCoy, Lear McCoy) will help coordinate grounds, particulars and local arrangements. United Kennel Club staff will be in attendance to oversee the administration of the event. Spectators are welcome, and there is no charge to come out and tour the Real McCoy Outdoors facility and learn more about United Kennel Clubs Elite Shed Dog Series events for shed antler recovery dogs.
Tentatively the National Championship will feature events for both Working Shed Dog Class and Champion Shed Dog Class. Qualification requirements have been set at one (1) qualifying run during the preceding year to be eligible to enter Working, and four (4) qualifying runs to be eligible to enter Champions. Though many event details remain to be worked out, this announcement serves to allow the shed dog community to save the date and think about getting dogs qualified.
We will continue to update with announcements regarding event format, sponsorships, entry information and other details as they become available in the next few months. Until then, keep April 26, 27 and 28 open for 2019. Someone is going to be crowned the first UKC Elite Shed Dog Series National Champion.
