United Kennel Club (UKC) is thrilled to announce some exciting developments for our friends in the Field Dog Stud Book in 2024!

In September of 2021, UKC announced the acquisition of American Field Publishing Company, including the Field Dog Stud Book, and we assured those concerned by the move that the American Field name, as well as the Field Dog Stud Book pedigree database would not be going anywhere, and indeed, would be carefully managed for the continued betterment of field trial dogs.

Since that time, weve spent countless hours getting ready to be able to fully integrate the FDSB & UKC studbooks together, to make registration more efficient, and to include more rights and privileges for our customers in the pointing dog and field trial world, and were ready to announce some of the developments that youll see in the near future.

For starters, were excited to announce that when your completed paperwork comes back to you, it will include your registration certificate, as well as your dogs performance pedigree, which will be automatically included as part of the process. This new look, similar to one we announced for other UKC-registered dogs last year, will come on 11x17 paper, suitable for framing. It will also feature an updated look specific to dogs registered with the FDSB, in a nod that speaks to more than a century of tradition exemplified by this stalwart of pointing dog heritage. Were also adding 6 and 7 generation upgrade options to pedigrees for FDSB dogs, along with metallic upgrade options, previously only available to UKC-registered dogs.

In addition to this, FDSB dogs will be eligible for Purple Ribbon status in UKC as well, to give focus to the generations of registered pointing dogs whose lineage has been painstakingly tracked in the Field Dog Stud Book since 1874. Purple Ribbon status in UKC is used to identify dogs which have a minimum of three generations of ancestors on record at UKC. With the FDSB database fully integrated, we can recognize these dogs as they so richly deserve.

These are just a few of the developments that you can look forward to in 2024 as we carry on our mission of integrating the Field Dog Stud Book and enjoining the legacy of American Field to that of United Kennel Club. We will continue to look for opportunities to grow the sport of pointing dog field trials, and to push forward the legacy of American Field, always keeping those dogs and their owners in the forefront of everything we do.

Guided by the belief that dogs make a difference by being the best partner a human can have in the field, on the job, or in a competition event, UKC is a community for people and dogs to pursue excellence together. Founded in 1898, UKC has been dedicated to enhancing the lives of Dogs That Do More, and their owners, by providing essential resources to help owners and breeders make informed decisions. The dog-human bond is celebrated through family-friendly programs highlighting the instincts and heritage of purebred and mixed-breed dogs alike at over 18,000 licensed events annually.
