At the beginning of any new program change is inevitable. There are small things that might have been missed at inception, clarifications that need to be addressed and increased opportunities to offer any new program. Eventually the need for change will be less necessary. At UKC we do not take program changes lightly and try to error on the side of caution as opposed to changing things all the time. Based on the input received from interested clubs we have finalized changes that will be put in place for the third season of the Elite Shed Dog Series. We have divided these changes into three sections and will announce and discuss them individually in the coming weeks. First up for discussion will be changes to the Dog Of The Year and Youth Of The Year programs, presented by Bone Clone.
While we are certainly proud of the deserving winners of these awards in seasons one and two, we believe we have come up with a format that addresses some of the program concerns of winners and non-winners alike. For that reason, we will be running under a new format for DOY and YOY honors. The new format is neither a benefit nor a detriment to those individuals who attend the highest number of ESDS events throughout the season.
DOY Summary:
Dogs must be nominated each season to be eligible to participate for Dog Of The Year. A dog may be nominated at any time during the competition year. A dog may only be nominated one time per year. Nominated dogs will receive a nomination booklet with a nomination number unique to each individual dog. The cost to nominate a dog is $10 (Coupon for free stick of Bone Clone included). Nomination can only be made through United Kennel Club by contacting the office or by purchasing a Nomination Booklet online. Coming soon! If a nomination booklet is lost, a duplicate may be issued by United Kennel Club for an additional fee.
Each nomination booklet contains eight (8) event tickets. A dog must use all event tickets to be eligible for Dog Of The Year honors. A ticket may be used at any event (one per event) per the discretion of the owner or handler. An event ticket for a qualifying run must be turned in to the host club before the first dog has run at the start of the event. Once a ticket is submitted it may not be rescinded.
