A huge thank you goes out to everyone who commented on the proposed Drag Racing Rules. Several changes and clarifications have been made and the final version of the Drag Racing Rules has been posted on the UKC website.
Here are the major changes that have been made to the Drag Racing Rules that will go into effect on January 1, 2022:
Chapter 5. Section 2
Advanced Racer Class: A change has been made to the eligibility requirements for a Novice Racer to enter into the Advanced Class.
- To be eligible to enter the Advanced class, dogs coming from the Novice class must have at least two passing runs wearing a muzzle for each race type (flat, steeplechase).
The change: Went from one passing run to two passing runs wearing a muzzle.
-----
Chapter 5. Section 3
Novice Racer. Grandfather Clause
- Grandfather clause for the Novice Racer title. Dogs that have earned points toward the UKC United Flat Racer or the United Steeplechase Racer titles but have not completed the title requirements, will be grandfathered legs toward the numerical Novice Racer title based upon the following:
- One Novice Racer numerical title will be grandfathered for each cumulative total of 45 points. For example, a dog that has earned 15 points will be granted 1 Novice Racer leg; 30 points will be granted 2 Novice Racer legs; a dog with 45 points will receive 3 Novice Racer legs and will be granted the numerical Novice Racer title. Competition is not required for this title.
- Grandfathered legs for the Advanced title are found in the Advanced Racer section.
The Change: There was no grandfather clause.
-----
Chapter 5. Section 3
Advanced Racer. Eligibility to enter:
- To be eligible to enter the Advanced class, dogs coming from the Novice class must have at least two passing runs wearing a muzzle for each race type (flat, steeplechase).
The change: Went from one passing run to two passing runs wearing a muzzle.

Chapter 5. Section 3
Advanced Racer. Grandfather Clause
See Table On Pg. 11 of Rulebook
- Dogs who have earned a competition win on record when running for the former UFR or USR title, will have that competition win grandfathered. Dogs will only need to fulfill the remaining title requirements under the new Advanced class requirements. For example, a dog that has 60 points and a competition win will be grandfathered 2 legs and the competition win and will need to only earn 1 leg by running and qualify in an Advanced race. A dog that has 75 points, but no competition would have to earn a competition win before being granted the Advanced title and eligible to move up to the Regular class.
The Change: Clarification of grandfathered wins based upon former points and competition wins earned toward the UFR and USR titles.
-----
Chapter 5. Section 3
Regular Racer. Grandfather Clause.
Grandfather clause for the Regular Racer with Championship points from the Regular classes:
- Dogs that have earned Champion points and competition wins will have those points and competition wins grandfathered toward the Champion title.
- Dogs that have earned the required Championship points and competition wins once the current rules go into effect, will be grandfathered the Champion title.
The Change: Additional ways for wins were added to count prior points and competition wins toward the Champion title, and to grant the Champion title to those dogs who met the point and competition requirements outlined under the new rules.
-----
Chapter 5. Section 3
Champion Racer. Grandfather Clause.
Grandfather clause for the Champion Racer with Grand Championship points from the Champion class:
- Dogs that have earned Grand Champion points and competition wins will have those points and competition wins grandfathered toward the Grand Champion title.
- Dogs that have earned the required Grand Championship points and competition wins once the current rules go into effect, will be grandfathered the Grand Champion title.
The Change: Additional ways for wins were added to count prior points and competition wins toward the Grand Champion title, and to grant the Grand Champion title to those dogs who met the point and competition requirements outlined under the new rules.

Chapter 7. Section 1. Official Entry form.
- The Event Secretary must assign individual armband numbers on each entry form submitted to UKC in the space provided in the upper right-hand portion of the entry form.
- If the same dog is entered in different types of events, the club may have the same or a different armband number on the entry form, depending on how the club sets up each event.
- All entry and move up/entry correction forms must be submitted to UKC with the event reports.
The Change: Clarification of the responsibility of the Event Secretary and how event forms must be handled and submitted to UKC.
