UKC Announces Changes to the Drag Racing Grandfather Clause

Update to the Grandfather Clause for the UKC Drag Racing Program

Question: What happens to the points my dog earned toward the UFR or USR titles if I decide I no longer wish to pursue the Champion title? Do the points count for anything in the Novice level?

Answer: If an exhibitor chooses not to pursue the Champion title, they may choose to continue running their dog in the Novice class for as long as they wish and earn the numerical Novice Racer titles.
Dogs that have earned points towards toward the UKC United Flat Racer or the United Steeplechase Racer titles but have not completed the title will be grandfathered legs toward the Novice Racer title.

Grandfathering for the UKC Drag Racing Program: Dogs that have earned points toward the UKC Drag Racing titles will be grandfathered legs as outlined in this section.

  • Novice Racer and Advanced Racer legs: The number of legs granted toward the Novice Racer title and Advanced Racer title is based upon the total number of points a dog has earned while running toward the UFR or USR title but have not met the title requirements. A grandfathered leg will be credited for each cumulative total of 25 points.
    • A dog that has a minimum of 25 points shall be grandfathered with the 1 Novice Racer leg.
    • A dog that has a minimum of 50 points shall be grandfathered with the 2 Novice Racer legs.
    • A dog that has a minimum of 75 points shall be grandfathered with the 3 Novice Racer legs and the Novice Racer title.
    • For each additional 75 points a dog has accumulated, a numerical Novice title will be noted on the dogs record.
    • A dog that has a minimum of 100 points shall be grandfathered with the Novice Racer title and 1 Advanced Racer leg.
    • A dog that has a minimum of 125 points shall be grandfathered with the Novice Racer title and 2 Advanced Racer legs.
    • A dog that has earned a minimum of 150 points but has not earned the UFR or USR title will be grandfathered with the Novice Racer 2 title and the Advanced Racer title The dog will need to enter directly into the Regular class and may start earning Champion points toward the Drag Racing Champion title.
    • Additional legs earned based upon points that exceed 225 points shall only be applied to the numerical Novice Racer title and will not be applied to any Championship points or titles.
  • Dogs Competing in the Regular Class for Champion points: Dogs that have earned their UKC UFR or USR titles and have points toward their Drag Racing Champion title shall retain their points and competition wins.
    • Dogs competing in the Regular class that meet the Drag Racing Champion title requirements under the new rules based upon their points and competition on record may be granted the Drag Racing Champion title. Owners are to check with UKC regarding their title and eligibility to enter the Grand Champion class.
    • Additional points that exceed the new Champion title requirements will not be applied to any Grand Championship points or titles.
  • Dogs Competing in the Champion Class toward the Grand Champion title: Dogs competing in the Champion class that have earned points toward their Drag Racing Grand Champion title shall retain their points and competition wins.
    • Dogs that meet the Drag Racing Grand Champion title requirements under the new rules based upon their points and competition on record may be granted the Drag Racing Grand Champion title. Owners are to check with UKC regarding this title and eligibility to start earning wins toward the Drag Racing Grand Champion Excellent title.
    • Additional points that exceed the new Grand Champion title requirements will not be applied to the Grand Champion Excellent titles.
