Announcing the new 'National Total Dog' Title

September 13, 2024

The All-Breed Sports team is excited to make an announcement for all those Total Dog Invitational entrants out there, either this year or in years past!

Some of you may notice a new title the next time you check your dogs pedigree. Thats because UKC has now recognized the achievement of those dogs who have excelled at the Total Dog Invitational with the new National Total Dog (NTD) title!

In 2021, UKC created the Total Dog Invitational to honor these dogs and the handlers who put in the work with them to excel and to represent the UKC Total Dog philosophy, which honors those dogs who can perform equally well both in the show ring as well as in All-Breed performance sports. These dogs have the looks to excel as a model example of their breed as well as the brains, training, ability, and athleticism to perform athletically in any number of sporting events.

The NTD title will be awarded to dogs who earn a 1st through 4th place group placement in Conformation at the Total Dog Invitational (and in so doing, defeat at least one other dog), AND who earn a qualifying score in at least one performance event.

This award will also be given retroactively to any dogs who met these qualifications at the 2022 or 2023 Total Dog Invitational. Dogs who have earned this accolade in multiple years will receive the title with a multiplier on it (i.e. NTD2, NTD3, etc.)

(The year 2021 saw 32 entries, which were split into eight groups. The Group 4 Placements from that year are not eligible, because they did not defeat another dog in groups.)

We congratulate those dog and handler teams who have earned this honor, and look forward to bestowing it upon more Total Dog teams in the future!

Guided by the belief that dogs make a difference by being the best partner a human can have in the field, on the job, or in a competition event, UKC is a community for people and dogs to pursue excellence together. Founded in 1898, UKC has been dedicated to enhancing the lives of Dogs That Do More, and their owners, by providing essential resources to help owners and breeders make informed decisions. The dog-human bond is celebrated through family-friendly programs highlighting the instincts and heritage of purebred and mixed-breed dogs alike at over 18,000 licensed events annually.
